Write at the Merge, Week 5 | Write On Edge

writing prompt Welcome to Week 5 of Write at the Merge! Five weeks! Time flies when you?re writing. Sorry this is up so early, but until WordPress and Inlinkz end their blood feud, we can?t schedule posts with linky code in them. Le sigh.

Here are the guidelines for our new format:

Write at the Merge will provide you with two? somethings? to spark your creativity. You have up to 500 words to write a creative writing piece inspired by the prompt. Some weeks both things might speak to you but some weeks your piece can be solely inspired by one of the offerings. It?s your prompt, so use it in a way that works for you.

Bring your serial fiction, memoir, stand-alone fiction, poetry or any sort of creative writing inspired by what you find here. We do ask, though, if you are linking to serial fiction, that your work also function as a standalone piece.

The link is open now and will be open until 11:59 p.m. PST on Thursday.

This week, I give you a French phrase (you are not required to use the phrase verbatim, but you can) and a photograph:

La Douleur Exquise?(French): The heart-wrenching pain of wanting someone you can?t have.

When I came across this word I thought of ?unrequited? love. It?s not quite the same, though. ?Unrequited love? describes a relationship state, but not a state of mind. Unrequited love encompasses the lover who?isn?treciprocating, as well as the lover who desires.?La douleur exquise?gets at the emotional heartache, specifically, of being the one whose love is unreciprocated. ~ Via Pamela Haag on BigThink.com
